It is our absolute pleasure to share with you Box Not Found’s new project: New Music at The Well. We have partnered up with The Well Coffee House to bring new music to the people of East Boston.
This idea came to us after having several talks about diversity and accessibility in the arts. “What is the best way we can help our beloved city bring new music from all different peoples to the very heart of East Boston? If only we had a space!” As BNF, though a relatively new ensemble, we have tried to the best of our ability, to have conscious programming while supporting non-profit organizations that we believe are doing valuable work for the Boston community, but that was not enough for us. Were we doing enough for our mission of diversity and inclusivity? Not as much as we hoped we could. Have we been able to perform in East Boston and bring new music to our neighborhood? Not as much as we wanted to. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, we are just two very imperfect people trying to have a big impact in our community, and we will fail to meet our expectations and the expectations of our audience. So we asked ourselves “what can we do to help elevate our peers who are also striving for similar goals? What if we could help provide a music venue experience that is not frustrating or expensive? If only we had a space…”
This is where The Well Coffee House comes in the picture. The Well is a non-profit organization that exists for the sole purpose of giving great coffee (and tea!) to Bostonians while also supporting on a monthly basis different Boston non-profits that are doing great things for the city. Some of you may know that Natalie is a volunteer at The Well, and when she heard that they were getting a space in East Boston, she knew that this was the opportunity BNF had been looking for. We filled up with courage and pitched, to our friends at The Well Coffee House, the idea of a new music concert series. One that pays artists, has intentionally diverse programming, is educational, family friendly, and has Spanish translation services available! To our delight, they really liked our idea.
Our goal is to have an eight concert season starting in late fall of 2019, featuring new music ensembles with diverse programming. We will select these ensembles with a (free) application process. We will make sure to keep you up to date when our applications open; but in the meantime, we would love to answer any questions you might have. We would love to hear from you if you are interested in helping us with our new project. We would love to hear from you if you are interested in sponsoring an ensemble. We would love to hear any thoughts you might want to share with us. We would like to encourage you to go to The Well Coffee House and get to know them as an organization and as people. We would like to remind you that we will make mistakes, but we will also keep our minds open and learn in the process. You can reach out to us through our social media or via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
We are looking forward to new collaborations, relationships and music!
